Help sourcing this feather?

Fly Fish Food just put up a bunch of Whiting Dry Fly Hackle if anyone is interested, since we are talking about feathers…

I can personally vouch for these guys, I live close and go into the shop for tying supplies regularly; great attitude and excellent service every time is what I like most about them…

You may get what you order, you might not. I ordered a Rusty Dun cape…got a really nice furnace variant instead. No real harm done, but I think the owner is a bit of a shyster. Purchase what you can that is pictured as the article being purchased. Picture quality is kinda meh so its a gamble. On a positive note, I have never had to hassle him on shipping my stuff.

cookshill-flytying.co.uk/ for top quality feathers. His presentation and quality is second to none.

Superiorthreads.com for silks. I recommend Kimono silk as its diameter is closest to Pearsalls. Tire silk is usable as well but you have to be very concientious about how many wraps you make.

For genetic hackle, I highly recommend Jimsflyco.com for hen and rooster of all types.

I think I will give this company another try because everyone deserves a second chance. Maybe
I have been spoiled by making orders and receiving the stock so quickly. In the past it took several weeks to receive an order from a company. We now make an order and we want to receive it yesterday, I need to use more patience and not expect instant turn around on my orders. I have fallen into the “I want it right now” trap. I will let you know how it turns out. He does have an awesome selection/variety of feathers.

Hi, I see this is an older post, I’m new to this forum. I guess you may have found some good feathers by now, but the original post mentioned chickens and another comment mentioned hen pheasant, so I thought I could add a picture.

The feathers on the left, more ginger, are from a variety of chicken called Araucana. Different from what is called Furnace.
The feathers on the right, darker brown, are hen pheasant.

Araucana hen chicken. :grinning: I could send some samples if you like.

Welcome to the forum Jal!

Thanks for chipping in. I think your right about the origin of the feathers, as those chicken feathers look plenty familiar. Such pretty birds.

I’d love to get my hands on a sample, I’ll send you a PM.
