The BG Tenkara 48 NV arrived in the mail from Jeff Roberts yesterday evening. My first impression was, wow the color is gorgeous and it’s really long. My measurements are 38" collapsed and 132 grams. The color is a gorgeous dark green. I’ll set up a rod length 4.0 level line with apprx 3’ of 5x tippet and try casting it as soon as we get a nice day. It’s 8 above with a brisk wind today. Then I’ll take it out and try to catch a few trout with it.

Well, I finally got out and was able to use the BG Tenkara 48. Wow, what a sweet casting rod. I landed 10 browns and the 11th cut my line and I lost 3 nice ones. The stream I was fishing was wide open and that extra reach was really nice. I used a kebari called the Red Ass Monkey.

An update on the BG Tenkara rod. I just got back from the San Juan River in New Mexico and while the fishing was slow I did land one really nice fish. The bend in the rod was incredible but I never felt like I didn’t have control. A San Juan Takeover was organized by Adam Trahan and Jason Klass.

Considering you don’t know how to land big fish you did a darn good job. I’m not a big fish person either, but thought the rod handled the fish easily. Of course all I had to do was back up and let Chuck land the fish. A lot easier that way.
